Water
The water department consists of 8 full-time employees and 1 summer helper. SPUC is responsible for the maintenance and repair of 185.5 miles of water main from 4 inch to 18 inch, 1,768 hydrants, and 2,490 valves. In 2012 we pumped 2,150,248,000 gallons of water which is an average of 5,891,090 per day. We have 9,975 residential accounts, 811 commercial accounts, and 73 industrial accounts. In order to ensure the safety of Shakopee’s drinking water our operators collect 480 bacteriological samples per year as well as 220 nitrate and 254 fluoride samples. Our historic maximum day for water pumped was July 15, 2012 at 16.25 million gallons.
