We will try to have water restored by 12:00pm. If anyone has questions please contact the Water Department at 952-233-1503.

Shakopee One of Three Cities Commended by Governor for Drinking Water

It’s Safe Drinking Water Week in Minnesota, and Shakopee is one of three cities across the state to earn certificates from the governor’s office for their efforts in safeguarding the public’s drinking water.
“These cities serve as examples to other communities of how local involvement by land owners, community residents, and government can lead to innovative and effective implementation of source water protection efforts,” the Minnesota Department of Health wrote in a press release.” “Their activities improve the likelihood that drinking water sources will not be adversely affected either by potential sources of contamination or by the unwise use of water resources.”
More than 700 cities’ water systems were tested for the health department’s annual report. The vast majority met federal requirements, though nine bacterial contaminants were detected in nine communities and ten water systems exceeded arsenic standards.
“Safe drinking water is no accident,” said Minnesota Health Commissioner Ed Ehlinger said in a statement. “Many dedicated professionals work together to treat and test the water and maintain the infrastructure. Because of their work, we can have confidence in the quality of the water that comes out of our taps.”

Sprinkling Restrictions Begin May 1st
Published April 29, 2013To reduce peak demand on the water system and promote water conservation, SPU has adopted odd/even and time-of-day sprinkling restrictions from May 1 to October 1.
If your home or business address ends in an odd number, you may only water your lawn on odd-numbered days. If your home or business address ends in an even number, you may only water your lawn on even-numbered days.
No sprinkling is allowed between the hours of 12 noon and 5:00 PM. Water your lawn before noon and after 5:00 p.m. to avoid the heat of the day, when a great percentage of water simply evaporates. Watering your lawn during the morning hours is recommended to avoid lawn fungus. Exceptions are allowed for new seed or sod. While new sod or seeded lawns do need watering more often, please keep in mind that they do not benefit from prolonged watering.
In the event of repeat violations, a $50 charge per-instance will be assessed after two notifications.
